COVID- 19 has rocked a lot of our worlds. Small businesses are no exception.
In the first few days of “lockdown” I would look thru other photographers work and get ideas or even reach out to learn how they did a certain technique. Most of us are happy to share, as photography is an art form so its a constant learning curve. What better time to learn and teach than when we are all locked inside with just our computers, and kids.

Durring these browsing sessions I ran across a photographer that was taking a different approach to social distancing. She was documenting families on their front porches as they are. Some families got all dressed up and others posed with fun props and got silly. The intriguing part of it for me was the excitement that they had in sharing their photos and the excitement that it brought to an otherwise dull day. The comments that the families made were heart warming and refreshing.
I thought wow what a great idea. So I posed my family on the front porch and took their picture. I let them be however they wanted. My husband posed with a wrench and the hot water heater he was currently installing, my oldest wanted to be in her pajamas. Has anyone elses teen spent this whole time in their pj’s and sweats. ugh! The youger girls wanted to pose with their electronics that I rarely let them have. lol. And my son wouldn’t stop his playing long enough to even pose for the picture. Hes 3 and yes even a photographer can not get all their kids to sit for a photo.

I posted the picture on my Instagram and Facebook, then I made a page on my website just for the Front Steps Project and the response has been amazing. I have connected with a ton of new people, some that even went to the same church as me but I had never met. We go to a very large church, so I know there are lots of people that I won’t ever meet, but we still feel right at home and love it there.
So what does this all boil down to? Even though we are stuck at home we can still connect and use this time for the better for all.
